Can Vegetarians Be Sexy? FUCK YES

So I was trying to concentrate on my Developmental Psychology notes when my attention is drawn to the TV. The Wright Stuff is on. And I know the sole purpose of this programme is to create unnecessary controversy to get people calling in and arguing, but this really irritated me.

‘Can Vegetarians Be Sexy?’

I appreciate that many would prefer to be with someone with similar eating habits to themselves, but they went as far as to say ‘I would stop fancying someone who didn’t eat meat’. Why the hell would you limit your options and disregard a potentially perfect partner due to what they do or do not eat? Does it really affect you that much? I’m sorry, but it’s more of an issue the other way around and I doubt you’d find many vegetarians refusing to date meat-eaters.

And then the whole ‘they can’t be sexy’. Because feasting on dead animals is sooooo attractive. Apparently vegetarians are ‘weak and pale’...um no, as long as they eat properly and get sunshine and exercise they’re no weaker or paler than the next person. Look at Anthony Kiedis ffs, he's tanned and sexy and I dare anyone to claim otherwise!

They went on to make wild assumptions that all vegetarians are picky eaters which we aren’t, and even if we were it really does not affect relationships. My first boyfriend ate meat with every meal and would never EVER even consider trying vegetarian alternatives. Did it negatively affect our relationship? NO! (Nothing beyond me being uncomfortable when he ate smelly tuna anyway.) Who cares what people eat? It’s not like I’m going to shove vegetarian food down my partner’s throat if they don’t want to eat it (...and it’d hardly be terrible if I did because they’d be getting their food cooked for them!).

It just bugs me because so many people misunderstand vegetarians already without this additional rubbish. The amount of times people have decided that the reason I’m thin is because I’m a vegetarian, or that I’m a vegetarian to stay thin (vegetarians can still eat cake, people!).

I apologise for my mini-rant that lacks purpose or direction...I had more to say on the matter but between finishing my notes and getting to the laptop I forgot things! GRRRR haha. And I appreciate I may be a little biased here, but I'd feel the same even if I wasn't a vegetarian. It just scares me a little that people think the other way...not to mention making me realise just how lucky I am to have a boyfriend who doesn't mind my vegetarianism, strange fashion sense, diminutive stature and extreme bitchiness.

So what do you guys think? Would you avoid dating a vegetarian? What about someone with a food allergy, would you reject them too?
