Bristol Museum Meet

Today there was a little meet in Bristol! Things didn't go to plan as our host Maria was ill, and it turned out that everyone was really quiet so it was a little awkward.


As usual, I missed my intended bus. But I did have time to take the obligatory shoe shot! My coord was sailor themed, and was complete with sand.

We met at The Tea Birds at lunch time, although I ran a little late as I had to return a sweater to Primark. I had a sweet cream tea with vanilla black tea. It was delicious! The scone was warm too. The tea room was waaaay too hot though thanks to the weather and lack of air conditioning! But it was a cute tea room and I want to go back to try out some of their cakes.


Next we went to the museum for a little wander, and there were more derp owls!

We were all pretty tired though, so we didn't get to finish looking at the paintings before we split. I didn't mind as I wanted to hit the shops! I hope we have more weekday meets soon though as they're so much better for me, and everywhere is quieter in the week too.

Juliette et Justine!

Waaaay back at the start of February a few Juliette et Justine rereleases went up for preorder. La Bibliotheque has been a piece I've loved for a long time, but in the end Die Sterntaler managed to tempt me too!

I decided to use fromjapan instead of ordering directly in the hopes of saving a little money, so I bought a couple other bits too. Express shipping turned out to be a waste of money though as it arrived in the country after a day and was then held up in customs for almost a week. VAT was just over £30, and shipping was a lot more than that! I think I'll get cheap shipping next time, although I like having tracking.


I was suprised by how small the box was!

A huge and gorgeous bag came with it, as well as a little catalogue.

I tried on La Bibliotheque first, and it fits like a glove! It cost ¥33,285 (£195), which is pretty pricey. My worries about the brand being too long on me were well founded though, and I realised that I don't own any petticoats that I can wear with it. So annoying as I wanted to wear it to the meet tomorrow, but it would probably look too sad without one!


The inner hem has the brand name printed on it! I think it's a great little touch. This is the antique orange colourway. Turns out that only the long section is chiffon, which suprised me a little.


Die Sterntaler is even longer and not the most flattering, but it's so flowy and lovely. This was slightly cheaper at ¥32,182 (£189).


The people look kinda creepy to be honest, but the stars really stand out with the flash!


I love how this brand does the flowy sleeves. They help conceal my horrid bony shoulders so well.

I would definitely buy Juliette et Justine pieces in future, but I have to work on getting accessories and things to match the style first as I only have really sweet things!

Holy Night Story headbow in green since I bought the JSK last time. ¥3,885 (£23) is a little expensive, but these don't seem to come up very often and this was a very popular print and colourway.


I also picked up this Baby, The Stars Shine Bright JSK for ¥3,045 (£18). I used to own a similar one that had really bad fading, but I sold it a few years ago and really regretted it. This one isn't quite as flattering, but the lace is really pretty.


Unfortunately it has a gross stain on the bottom! This wasn't mentioned in the listing and their photos completely hid it. Will have to try bleaching it or just leave it looking gross. Boo! I guess you can't expect too much for £18.

This will be my last lolita purchase for quite a long time now as I have no money at all after 4 Black Milk orders. I still have a holiday & a festival to pay for, and I'm really feeling the pinch!

Lolita Blog Carnival: Favourite Lolita Shoes

Today's Lolita Blog Carnival task is to introduce our 3 favourie pairs of shoes for lolita. This is a toughie for me, as I usually wear the same gross boots over & over for comfort, and they don't count as lolita at all so I won't even include them!


Tea party shoes are a classic, and even though they're really unflattering I think every lolita should try a pair! I tend to wear my pink ones more, but my Angelic Pretty pair fell apart and I'm not too fond of my Antainas, so I'm picking my black Angelic Pretty pair here.


Rocking horse shoes are another classic. I own 3 pairs, but this crazy Antaina pair are the ones I tend to use the most. Good for big events as they make a big statement!


It was difficult to pick a final pair as the above are the only truly lolita pairs that I find comfortable enough to use regularly. However I think I'm going to go for my go to pair of heels, which I got from Peacocks around 8 years ago. They're a bit beaten up, but can work really well in my more gothic outfits.

On Sunday I went to Bristol's The Fleece to see InMe!


I used to be a huge fan back in the White Butterfly days after stumbling upon Lava Twilight on a compilation my cousin loaned to me. I couldn't resist jumping at the chance to see them, especially since I knew I could tempt Rob into it as Oxygen Thief was on the bill too.


We grabbed some sushi before heading to the venue. I mostly had cucumber maki (2 plates!) since there wasn't anything else on the belt & we didn't have time to order anything. I did pinch some of Rob's edamame though, & traded a few rolls for avocado ones.


Oxygen Thief was on first, a full band act again rather than an acoustic set. Brilliant as always (this was our third time), quite a few new songs too. I was kinda sad that no one was jumping about as I feel the room was missing a little pit action at this point.


The next act were the Red Paintings. I was...not impressed. They were a bunch of white Australian weebs wearing tacky costumes styled like kimonos. We were greeted with 'konnichiwa' even though it was evening and so 'konbanwa' would have been more appropriate. They asked people before the show if they were interested in 'art' which turned out to be someone stood on stage, practically naked, being painted whilst wearing a papier-mâché head that was a geisha on one side and an alien on the other. SJWs would have had a field day. There were also creepily masked people wandering around in the crowd for atmosphere or something I guess, but I genuinely felt really uncomfortable. The sad thing is that I kinda liked the music, although the use of the word 'fuck' in every song was kinda irritating. They sounded as if R.E.M. had gone visual kei, and yeah they probably would have been much better if they weren't trying so hard to be 'edgy'. I probably wouldn't have had a problem if there hadn't been such blatant cultural appropriation. Tumblr has ruined my enjoyment of things Dx Also I think musical acts can only pull of this kind of stuff if they're wildly popular.

When they finished some friends from uni appeared! I hadn't seen them in a year so it was good to have a catch-up. Truly an unexpected pleasure haha. And then...


InMe! I must say, they look pretty different now than in the live DVD I own haha. They put on a great show. Dave kept spitting which was gross, but they seem like genuinely fun guys. The setlist was surprisingly good as well. I was worried about not knowing any songs as I only know the first 2 albums. I listened to the 3rd maybe two times all the way through & the only bits & pieces of the 5th once. It turned out that I knew the song they played from the 4th anyway, & they played my favourite song off each album too (with the exeption of Neptune).

We'll definitely go catch them again next time they tour locally!

I really haven't been to enough gigs this year, but there's plenty of the year left, I guess!

Lolita Blog Carnival: Disney Coordinates

It's that time of the week again...Lolita Blog Carnival! This week we're looking at all things DISNEY. If you don't love Disney, you're lying.


I'm choosing to focus on Minnie Mouse, because I don't have energy for this and it's an easy one to pick as there are already so many great coords!


Angelic Pretty dresses lend themselves well to Minnie Mouse coords. Fantasic Dolly is one that springs to mind.


Dot Midnight Doll would be a cute one too!


A good excuse to wear animal ears with lolita! I even saw ones like this for about £3 at H&M recently.


And chunky yellow shoes would finish off the look! Antaina has a bunch of character accurate ones, but I'm rather taken with these Vivienne Westwood Melissa ones.

Lolita Blog Carnival: Your Dream Lolita Event

This will just be a quick Lolita Blog Carnival this week, as I really have no energy right now!


I'd say that the ultimate awesome would be a big frilly trip away somewhere.


Disneyland would have to feature!


If France, then a visit to the Palace of Versailles.


If Japan, then lots of cultural stuff! Definitely check out some traditional tearooms.


And of course, SHOPPING!

Although I guess that would be a bit of an extreme event! If only I had lots of money...

Oxford Adventures

After the Kyary show I went back to Oxford with Hayley, as it was nicer and less stressful than staying in a hostel in London.


I had this cruddy Twix Krushem for the coachride back, where a pair of nerds spoiled every damn plotpoint of A Song of Ice & Fire by discussing it at length the whole time.

Hayley had work in the morning, so I browsed Instagram before leaving for town at 09:30.


I decided to walk to town to save money, and saw this cool Red Bull car!


Oxford is so pretty!


I went to the Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museums first.


I feel like I shouldn't love taxidermy, but the birds were so derp that I love them!


I dunno what this is...a beaver I think?

I then went to the Ashmolean, which was really disappointing. I had to carry my backpack in my hand and it was too heavy, and the painting galleries were shut off. I'm not interested in jugs and stuff so I didn't stay very long.


I did find Ancient Egyptian birds though.


Lots of lovely instruments.


And a tiny Japanese tearoom!

I figured I'd go shopping a little since I was on the highstreet. I made the mistake of trying on cute things in H&M that I really want but couldn't justify buying. I wish I'd just bought them now as they don't sell them locally anymore!

Here's the stuff I bought in Primark! Only cost £11 total. There was a sweater I wanted too but no moneyyyy. Oh and the Perry the Platypus was from Poundland where I also bought a cheap and yummy sandwich for the train and some Softmints!


Pretty flowers by the Oxford castle! I wandered around town looking for some grass to sit on to eat food and have a break from my rubbing shoes for 2 hours but couldn't find anywhere at all.


So I ended up on a random picnic bench in the deserted castle grounds hehe.


I was thinking this sushi would be hella disappointing, but by that point I was so hungry that it was like eating the best thing ever!

Afterwards I went to get the train. The weather was so nice out so it was a shame to waste it travelling back home, but I was exhausted and sore.

I should really travel more! I just need a better paid job first orz
