Lolita Blog Carnival: A Peek Inside Your Closet

After seeing Monika's latest entry over at Lace Teapot, I decided that I would like to be part of the Lolita Blog Carnival too! Basically it's a group of lolita bloggers who decide on topics to all write about to inspire and promote each other! I wanted to join so I can try to get my lolita mojo back.


The topic this week is 'A Peek Inside Your Closet'. Now I'll be honest, mine is a disorganised mess at the moment. Actually, a bunch of my stuff is on my floordrobe, and even more is stuffed in the spare room! I'm intending to use January's annual wardrobe post theme on EGL as an excuse to organise my stuff and maybe sort out some things to sell.


Here's my closet! It's currently organised by piece type, brand, and print/non-print. This might change when I reorganise it, but I don't really know what the best way to do it is really! Maybe by colour?

I guess I'll just pull out a couple pieces to spotlight today! I'll pick out some pieces I've never worn in the hope of inspiring myself to wear them.


First up, Tea Time Á La Carte salopette by Angelic Pretty! I just bought a set for the sake of it and wasn't overly fond of the print. I had also wanted it in black, not pink. The print has grown on me now though, I love the silvery cutlery and mint donuts! But salopettes are awkward to coord. This one can be used as just a skirt though, so I guess I should work on coording it finally. It's so short though!


This is Royal Tailor, also by Angelic Pretty. I got it in a lucky pack back in summer, and while I love this piece I'd much rather have one of the other colourways! The colour is really vibrant so I just don't know how to coord it, and I'm not sure how halters work with blouses.


The details are so gorgeous though! I've always loved these kinds of bodices. The fabrics are to die for too, gorgeous rich velveteen and satin.


Lastly, Usakumya-chan's Stylish Sweet Time by BTSSB. This was an impulse buy a while back, but it's L size and really really long. I've never even tried it on! I really ought to as it's nice and simple, one of my favourite colours, and I love the rose lace, scallops, and little pops of mint in the print.

Wardrobe Spotlight: Swan Lake

I'm sure we all have that one piece that stood out to us when we were first discovering lolita. I had been aware of lolita for some time, but had only seen old-school sweet which, while cute, didn't really capture my attention (or rather, my wallet) too much.

But then, in 2008, there was Metamorphose's Swan Lake.



The first print I ever saw, and I fell in love with it! I love the high-waist skirt in black the most, but after searching for a long time I never found any in black. Well, that isn't true - I found a black JSK on an auction site, but my bids were blocked by the seller as they didn't want it to go to a foreigner! But then I found this one, the pink OP, for 4000yen. Even though I don't very much like OPs and the collar and sleeves are missing, I couldn't miss out on an opportunity to own my first dream print!


So here it is! There's a slight built-in petti, and lace-less shirring on the back. The tulle accents give it a princessy feel!


All of the bows are detachable. I prefer it with them on, but the pintucks mean there is still enough detail to get away with taking them off. The fabric seems a little worn (probably just from age) but it's soft and the print is bold. The waist-ties are detachable and held on by two fabric-covered buttons. A waist-tie is long enough for me to use as a belt, which is handy for my salopettes as they need drawing in and I don't own a real belt in any colour other than black.


Ribbon accents on the sleeves! It doesn't seem like they actually hold the sleeves tight though which is a shame, as it means I can't loosen them! Since I don't have the full sleeves I might remove all the buttons since they dig into my arm, but I think I might have to cut the elastic too as the sleeves are so tight that I'm in pain when I wear the dress at the moment! Which is odd as I thought Metamorphose was good for the slightly plus-sized lolitas...and I'm not plus-sized.


Those swans! There should be more bird prints in lolita.


And of course the headbow which came with it. I love the pearls <3

I hope I can figure out a good coord with it soon...I have reservations because I'm so used to wearing JSKs. And let's face it, it is a really tacky dress!

Wardrobe Spotlight: Powder Rose

I've been meaning to bring back this feature for a while, so let's get going!


Powder Rose is one of those prints I always liked, but wasn't a main one I was going for. However one day I saw it for a reasonable price on an auction site and had to snap it up!


I had actually originally wanted the tier mini-skirt version, but this one was a lot cheaper.


I love the materials so much! So soft and delicate, like rose petals are. The outer layer is sheer and dreamy. The print isn't the greatest, but it's a perfect piece for Spring and early Summer.


Cute little detachable bow! It's pretty unusual to buy something second hand and it still have all the detachable pieces.

Even the buttons are little roses! The lace has roses and bows on it, but I couldn't capture it well on camera.

Now that Spring has sprung, I am hoping to wear it to the next meet!

Wardrobe Spotlight: Circus Tutu

I thought it'd be interesting to start a Wardrobe Spotlight feature, so I have something to blog about! I'm hoping to start doing a few other features too, such as Dream Item Spotlight.


Circus Tutu was a bit of an odd buy at the time. I'd never seen it before and suddenly there it was in a sales post and I had to have it. I'd never experienced a feeling like that before!

At the time I was obsessed with Angelic Pretty pastel prints, but this dress stole my heart despite the different style - a style that I have recently been moving towards a little more.


This was the first brand print I ever bought. It was also my first purchase to cost over £100 (it was about £150). I remember the thrill and then the guilt at spending so much, the worrying that it would get lost between the USA and here. But thankfully it reached me in one piece!


At first I wasn't sure about the piece. I'd loved how it looked, but on my body it looked...odd. I hadn't realised it was low cut, and the shoulders are a little too big so the straps fall off every now and then. But every time I wear it I love it more! I guess it was just because I'd never seen anything with this cut before - it is even lightly boned! It's also my most worn brand dress for sure.


I'll probably continue to wear it often as it works with a few different styles, even more casual coords! (I love how you can see how much my petti died between the first 2 images. Yes, you heard me correctly - that is the same petticoat!).

I'd love to own Circus Ribbon one day too!


I didn't realise that there was a rouge colourway until recently and now it's calling to me. I'll have to ignore that calling for a long while though...and besides, the print looks better on the navy version hehe.
